It was about a year ago that I started flashing away when taking pictures. That of course is not a good idea at an artshow. Therefor this gallerist got kind pissed off.

-

Anyhow, I want to keep it short because the painting and me aren’t friends yet.

-

It’s colorful but I don’t like the colors, they seem to miss complexity. Than, what the colors miss on complexity, the compotition makes up for. Beeing a total ballbreaker. Okay, there I’m proud of but why can’t I like them both?

-

I figure that will need some time.

-

Ow, If you are wondering why on the painting this guy doesn’t look pissed. I didn’t want to show this guy like that since it was my fault that he acted like he drank a bucket of piss anyways.

Meet Michelle, almost 2 years old and the punkest kid I know. Complete with attitude at first sight but behind that is the sweetest human you can think of. Here, I revealed the secret of punks.

-

With my homies I often have discussions about taking pictures of people without asking, in this case I asked her mom but for instance in a train I rather be rude and shoot away at fellow-travellers (example) or fellow people in public space in general (example). Still I don’t think it’s rude. Sure, it may confront people with the fact that they are visible and in a certain way even interestin. But a reason to get angry?

-

These two pictures visualize very well what happens if I take a photo of someone without asking. First (left picture) there is the person’s attitude, showing it’s character, the primary reaction to interaction when it is still unclear if it is safe or not. The second (right picture) it becomes clear that it is safe, the natural expression is transformed in the easthetical, contious reaction. The way you want to be seen.

-

Well, I like to capture the first reaction. It would be kind of hard to get that if I’d ask for permission to shoot, wouldn’t it?

Lacking good words I’ll say that I can’t wait to see this in paint. Okay, it’s a lot of emptynes and grey.

-

But on the same time its got a lot of different lights, a wide range of subtile colors and lines, whatever I am supposed to mean with that.

-

And it makes me think of Gerhard Richter.

This is how the first painting I sold in years looks like in it’s final, well maybe not final, destination. Proud to be hanging in Bram and Lonja’s livingroom.

How much fun it would be to paint this on a gigantic canvas with an ocean of paintNo of course it wouldn’t make a meaningfull piece neither I find the composition very interesting.

But imagine how much fun it would be to paint this on gigantic canvas!

(I can, and would if I had the resources)

J-man got limbs again!Last time I showed this statue I was brutely sawing off what was left of his legs. Thought ‘brutely’ would be the wrong word since I was very carefull not to saw off too much and taking into acount how new legs could be attached again.

-

This is the result: J-man got new limbs. After making a mold of my fathers’ arms and a friends’ skinny legs (big feet and toes though, but that on the side) I prepared some concrete new bodyparts.

-

Here the statue is ready to be painted white again. The imperfections are smoothened out with an epoxy filler and the dirt left from it’s fatal crash has been rinsed off.

-

I suppose the next time you see this guy is back on the cross at the side of a road.

I got out from the U7 at Hermanplatz and quickly found out that I shouldn’t have. So I waited and took the next train to Mehringdamm.

Due to a fascination of anything that has to do with art, I choose to take a picture of a writing man. Due to that same fascination I didn’t want to paint any more that what primarily has to do with writing. All the other is abstract matter, which explains the low variety colors in the major part.

-

Maybe this is another metafor for art (with what I mean things that are manmade without further use), just a very small part of it is essential. While the majority are just accidental side issues like style; catogorisation; value; theory etc.

-

As long as the problem of an abscency is solved by the proces of making, nothing else matters. As that what is pictured in this work can be interpreted, this story also doesn’t matter.

-

Or maybe it’s just irony that the work that is pictured in the picture above created an absency that is, on it’s turn solved by this story? And that writing this doesn’t look at all like that what is pictured in this painting.

-

Next time I’ll paint something easyer, I promis.

Finally! Another painting after a long list of posts on photographs. Not that I mind photography, as long as it’s treated as a medium for recording light to make a registration of it’s manifestation at the moment the picture was taken, nothing more nothing less. It’s just that I would like to see this blog treating painting as it’s main issue. This is because I like looking at a painting than a looking at a picture picture.

-

The picture I used to make this painting after is, for instance and to my judgement, is a good picture already and fun to watch. For a secondĀ  I even thought about scanning and posting it but there are already enough pictures posted here and it wouldn’t make the painting better if it’s shown where it comes from. But what the picture can’t do and this painting can is simply amaze me with what it has become, even while going thru the entire proces of making it.

-

First I thought about making this a long story explaining the mediate and immediate differences between painting and photography, but I don’t feel like it at all. If you really want to read a complicated statement on art, painting and what I think I’m doing you can read the artist-statement I wrote yesterday. » Continue Reading…
